Old wagons with wood wheels had wrought iron bands as the "tire". Ships had anchors and anchor chain of wrought iron. Over 110 years old and it's probably wrought iron. WebAug 10, 2010 · LarryM. Norseman, First of all what recipe are you using. Second home-brew refractories are not going to be as durable, or Hi-Temp as the commercial mixes. One thing you can do to improve the lining after firing it is to wet the lining, Then brush on a mixture of water, silica sand,and fire clay, Then re-fire the lining.

As for figuring size requirements, 400 BTU per cubic inch is the number from Abana. For me, that's 30k for an Atlas mini forge, or 100k for an 8" forge like the Graham.
