It makes a lot of old instruments compatible - some guy 3D prints them and sells them for a fraction of the prices those official adapters go for. I got one to hook up a midi drum kit (Alesis Nitro) to my PS4 and it works like a charm. I believe it also works on PS5. They have one for Xbox, but it still requires other adapters and if you're looking to use an ekit on Xbox, it can get very expensive.
